Diazepam is a tranquilizer. One you take it for a few days you become addict to it and you will not be able to stop taking it. I am on this drug for the past 20 to 22 years since I had my first heart attack.

I have consulted my cordialogist so many time but he is unable to give me any suggestion for stopping it. He has only advised me not to increase the dosage and continue with the present dose only. So there is no other way for you also but to continue.

I am giving below the side effects of this drug just for your information.
SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, constipation, blurred vision, or headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: mental/mood changes, slurred speech, clumsiness, trouble walking, decreased/increased interest in sex, tremor, trouble urinating, sleep disturbances. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea, vomiting, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, persistent sore throat or fever. A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist-.

Best of luck to you both.

I was on them years ago for anxiety and also found them very hard to get off them, I started by cutting them in half for a short while and then having half tablet every other day. After a little while I crushed the tablets and was only having a very minute piece which worked for me. Eventually I did get off them and would never ever go on them again, but I must admit I did need them at the beginning of my illness. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life coming off the drug. You can do it, you will have good days and bad days and it really is hard but stick with it. Good luck./

Having been on and off the damn things for years, I can understand your addiction but presumably you are obtaining them from somewhere other than your GP as a reputable GP would/should not repeat prescribe these due to the level of addictiveness of this family of drugs?
