I am traveling to Ireland on holiday in September and will land Shannon headed to Dingle?

I will have a free day to spend on my own between Shannon and Dingle, any recommendation for must see attractions or recommend a hotel along the way?

Since you seem to be a hiker, take your thumb West from Shannon. Ireland is [one of] the safest and best countries in the world to hike in.

Follow the road from Shannon through Ennis
[bus from Airport to Ennis is a good idea].
Ennis is worth a visit.
From Ennis thumb the road to Kilrush.
From Kilrush go to Killimer.

Take the FERRY across the River Shannon which is about three miles wide here to Tarbert in Kerry. Thumb it again from Tarbert to Tralee. Dingle peninsula is ahead of you.

You don't need hotels in rural Ireland esp. if you are ready to take things as you find them. Every second house on the route above does B+B at quarter the price of a decent hotel.
