Hi, we're the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, or SMMT for short, and we are the leading trade association for the UK motor industry. We represent the interests of over 800,000 people employed in the sector, acting as the voice of the motor industry, promoting our position to government, stakeholders and the media.
Around 1.7 million cars and commercial vehicles and three million engines are produced annually in the UK, accounting for 10% of the UK’s total exports making the UK a key global player within the automotive sector and a significant contributor to the UK's economy.
